FEBRUARY FUN

SALEM PRE SCHOOL NEWS, FEB. 2013

February is such a busy month I don’t know where to begin.  Valentine’s Day comes mid month but it takes us the first two weeks of February to prepare for it.  We have to learn about the mail carrier and the post office first.  Then we make lovely Valentine projects for our “loved ones.”  One of our art projects gets mailed to ourselves so we can prove that the post office really works!
With Presidents’ Day celebrated on the 18th, Lincoln’s birthday on the 12th and Washington’s birthday on the 22nd, this is the best time of the year to learn a little about our country.  We’ll examine our flag and other important symbols of our country.  Facts about George Washington,  Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama are good to know.  How many states are there in the United States and which state do we live in?  These many sound like easy facts but we start here and build on them as we go.
On February 21st the three year old classes, known as the Orange and Green Classes, present an evening program for friends and family.  They will be singing some favorite songs and doing some of their musical activities and finger plays.  There is nothing cuter then these three year olds!  Anyone interested is invited to come along.  The program starts at 7:00 p.m.
Parent-Teacher Conferences  fill most of the last week of February.  We teachers enjoy having this chance to visit with parents and evaluate the year.  Thursday and Friday of that week are not so serious.  These are our PAJAMA DAYS!!  Everyone waits all year for these fun times.  Of course, we all wear our pajamas to school.  It’s the Pre School version of casual Friday.  We read stories with our blankies and bedtime pals and we feast on cereal and juice at snack time.  It’s a grand way to end the month!
